Dr. Geetha Manjunath shares how Niramai is changing the face of Breast Cancer Screening
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women today. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in every 12 women has the risk of a breast abnormality. Early diagnosis is very critical to decrease mortality rates.
NIRAMAI has developed a novel software-based medical device to detect breast cancer at a much earlier stage than traditional methods or self-examination. The solution is a low-cost, accurate, automated, portable cancer screening tool that can be operated in any clinic. The imaging method is radiation-free, non-touch, not painful, and works for women of all ages. The core technology of the NIRAMAI solution has been developed using patented machine learning algorithms for reliable and accurate detection of breast cancer. This unique solution can be used as a cancer diagnosis test in hospitals, for regular preventive health checkups, and also for large-scale screening in rural and semi-urban areas.
NIRAMAI stands for “Non-Invasive Risk Assessment with Machine Intelligence”. In Sanskrit, Niramai means being free from illness.
Dr. Geetha Manjunath is the Founder, CEO, and CTO of NIRAMAI Health Analytix. She is presenting a dedicated keynote session on “How Artificial Intelligence is transforming breast cancer detection and the impact of this technological innovation“ at the forthcoming Global Women’s Health Innovation Conference India 2022 to be held on 12 and 13 December 2022 in Mumbai.
The conference is organized to highlight inequalities in women’s health and to build conversations around women’s health and femtech in India.
Niramai’s technology has revolutionized early-stage detection of breast cancer where mortality rates are still very high in India. The price of preventive tests and the embarrassment involved in the process are key barriers preventing women from taking the first step toward breast cancer detection.
Dr. Geetha identified these critical challenges and built a technology that is both accessible and affordable.
The core of the NIRAMAI solution is Thermalytix, a computer-aided diagnostic engine that is powered by Artificial Intelligence. The solution uses a high-resolution thermal sensing device and a cloud-hosted analytics solution for analyzing thermal images. A unique SaaS solution has been developed using big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for reliable, early, and accurate breast cancer screening.
Niramai has launched a new initiative in the Breast Cancer Awareness Month of October. Now, community healthcare providers, NGOs, and public health workers conducting health awareness talks can also perform screening camps in conjunction. This new initiative offers “Easy Launch Kits” for breast cancer screening as a special ‘Starter Kit’ for socially concerned organisations enabling them to provide accurate breast cancer screening services by spending just Rs 1,000 per day.
Today Dr. Geetha Manjunath’s Niramai is recognized worldwide and has won several awards, including being featured in the World’s Top 100 AI Startup and Winner of the National Startup award. Niramai’s technology has redefined cancer detection in India making it affordable & accessible to Indian women across segments.
